Our Story

Built by someone who got tired of managing 30 people across 10 apps.

Cortex was not built in a startup accelerator. It was built from frustration, by someone who lived the problem every day.

The problem was never the people

I managed two high-output teams. Over 30 people producing work at a pace most companies dream of. The problem was never talent. The problem was keeping track of it all.

Every morning started the same way: check Slack for updates, cross-reference with the task board, open a third app for time tracking, a fourth for scheduling. By the time I had a clear picture of where things stood, an hour was gone. When you are the single point of command for a team doing that much output, things slip. Not because you are careless. Because the system is fragmented.

Performance reviews broke me

Writing performance reviews for 30 people is hard enough. Doing it from memory and scattered data across five different apps is nearly impossible. Who shipped more this quarter? Who has been consistent? Who needs support?

The answers existed, but they were buried in Slack threads, spreadsheets, and task boards that nobody kept current. I spent more time gathering data than actually reviewing performance. That is when I decided something had to change.

I tried every app. None of them fit.

I tried Asana, Monday, ClickUp, and others. Every one of them asked me to learn a new system, restructure my workflow, and convince my entire team to adopt yet another tool. They did not simplify. They added complexity.

Nothing was compatible with how my team already worked. Moving to a new tool felt like learning a new skill just to do something that should have been straightforward. I did not want another app my team had to adapt to. I wanted an app that would adapt to my team.

So I taught myself to build it

I was not a developer. I was a manager. But no existing tool solved my problem, so I decided to learn how to build the solution myself.

I taught myself to code and built every feature, every screen, every integration from scratch. Not because it was easy, but because I understood the problem deeply enough to know exactly what the solution should feel like. No developer could have built this from a spec. It had to come from someone who lived the pain.

Cortex is not a venture-backed product built to impress investors. It is a tool built by someone who needed it, for other people who need it too.

“Management apps are made to make your lives easier, not teach you new skills.”

Built by a Manager, for Managers

Adapt the app to the workflow.
Not the workflow to the app.

Most productivity tools ask your team to change how they work. Cortex takes the opposite approach. Your team already uses Slack or Discord. Cortex meets them there. No switching between 50 apps for 3 different reasons. Just one place for everything.
